Are fire drills mandatory for residential housing societies?
Our apartment complex in Thane West has 150 flats. The committee never conducts fire drills. Are high-rise societies legally required to train residents?

Yes. Under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, high-rise residential buildings exceeding 15 meters in height must conduct fire evacuation drills and safety briefings for residents at least once a year. The society management should arrange live training on using fire hose reels and basic extinguishers so that residents do not panic during a real lift lobby fire.
