Can we paint fire sprinkler pipes and heads to match home decor?

We have an open industrial ceiling apartment in Worli, Mumbai. The red sprinkler pipes and brass heads look ugly. Can we spray paint them black or white to match the ceiling color?

No! You can paint the exposed piping (using high-temperature paint, though standard code mandates red bands to identify fire lines), but you must NEVER paint the sprinkler heads or the thermal glass bulbs. Spray paint forms a coating that insulates the glass bulb, preventing it from shattering at the designated temperature. This delays water release, which can lead to rapid fire spread. Painted sprinkler heads must be replaced.
