Fire Extinguishers

Does ABC dry powder leave a corrosive residue on electrical parts?

We had a minor electrical spark in our printing press panel in Nagpur. We used an ABC powder extinguisher. The fire is out, but is the residue harmful to the undamaged parts?

Yes, ABC dry powder residue is highly corrosive to delicate copper circuits and electronics. When exposed to humidity, the Monoammonium Phosphate powder forms phosphoric acid, which eats away metal tracks. You must clean the printing press circuitry immediately using high-purity isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and soft brushes to prevent permanent damage.
