Under the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR) and NBC 2016: • Residential Buildings: Fire escape staircases must have a minimum width of 1.5 meters. • Commercial / IT Buildings: The minimum staircase width is 2.0 meters. • Educational / Hospital Buildings: Minimum staircase width is 2.0 meters. Stairs must be constructed of non-combustible materials, equipped with fire doors, and must not have any storage or electrical meters inside the shaft.
