What is the difference between upright and pendent sprinkler heads?

The difference lies in their mounting direction and spray pattern orientation:
• Pendent Sprinklers: Installed hanging downward from the pipe. The water shoots downward against a curved deflector to cover the floor area. They are ideal for spaces with false ceilings where piping is hidden.
• Upright Sprinklers: Mounted pointing upward from the pipe. The water shoots upward and deflects downward. They are used in industrial designs or basements where the piping is exposed, protecting the ceiling itself from rising heat.
