Fire Extinguishers

What is the penalty for using expired fire extinguishers in commercial shops?

I run a clothing shop in Pune. The local fire team did an audit and found that our 4kg ABC powder cylinder expired last year. What are the penalties or fines we might face?

Under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, failure to maintain active fire systems (which includes extinguishers) in working condition is a cognizable offense. Penalties include show-cause compliance notices, fines ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹50,000, or in severe cases of repeated neglect, the fire department has the power to seal the premises or withdraw the commercial trade license.
